Granite Carriage/Wagon Wheel Bumper (Bollard) Stone
This exquisite granite piece was used between two carriage house doors to protect the jamb from the wheels as a wagon or carriage was being driven in. The shape of the stone would "kick" the wheel over to direct it away from damaging the doorway. The unfinished portion of the stone was buried in the ground. Measurements as follows:
Overall length: 49"
Finished portion: 18" high
Finished portion: 14" wide x  12" deep
The back of the stone is flat to be put up against any flat surface. The base is off-set some to allow for a tight fit against any flat surface when the bulbous base is buried (see photo #4).
