Antique Stone

19th Century French Burr Millstone

This particular stone was utilized in Massachusetts but was imported as ballast in the 19th Century. The stone came from a region of France known for its incredibly hard composition which is required to reduce down time for stone re-tooling/sharpening. Most of these stones came with a metal circumference band. This one shows no evidence of ever having one. Measures a petite and highly desirable 37” diameter x 8” thick with a 6” center hole. Highly desirable “pinwheel” pattern.
